Sinfonia's Woodwind Section
The woodwind section has a diverse range of instruments, and many personalities! Some of the instruments have reeds (clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, cor anglais, bassoon), while the modern transverse flute and piccolo stand out within this section not only because they are played sideways but have no reeds at all. These players are regularly called upon to perform solos within the orchestral works, adding those individual voices within the body of sound. Additionally, as a section the woodwinds create complex harmonies, lending colour and sonorous texture to the musical pieces. As with all the players in Sinfonia, most members of the woodwind section have careers outside music, are retired or are still students.
